Do Something Right the First Time
Why your reliability is the most unfair advantage you have
Marketing Shenanigans (#029)
This isn’t just personal advice—it’s a game-changer in the workforce.
Sure, it might take longer upfront. But if you hold yourself to a higher standard for the small stuff, you’ll save yourself so much time, energy, and reputation damage later.
If you want to stand out, here’s one of the simplest (yet most overlooked) ways: Be the person who never drops the ball.
Here’s what I mean:
Answer emails on time.
Send calendar invites correctly.
Follow up on tasks without being reminded.
Sounds basic, right? But in a world where reliability is rare, being dependable is your strongest asset.

What Brands Can Learn From This
This doesn’t just apply to people—it applies to brands, too.
If brands took the time to truly understand:
1️⃣ Who they are
2️⃣ What problem they’re solving,
3️⃣ Who they’re solving it for
...they wouldn’t have to shell out a fortune on rebranding projects years down the line.
Here’s the truth: Your reputation is everything.
Once you’ve built a bad reputation—whether as a person or a brand—it’ll cost you way more time, money, and energy to fix it than it would’ve taken to establish a good one from the start.

The Bottom Line
Standing out isn’t as hard as people think. Sometimes, all it takes is this: Be the person nobody has to worry about.
When you’re reliable, people trust you. When they trust you, you get more opportunities. And when you deliver, you gain the leverage to ask for more—whether that’s a raise, a promotion, or your dream project.
Reliability is your unfair advantage. Don’t waste it.

We ask this because we keep a fairly narrow target for whom we work, and we like to be as open about that on the front end as possible. After all, time is life’s most valuable resource.
